'Booze Trip' is painting #1/3 2022 in my early sobriety recovery work. The story behind this one is: That's me in the driver's seat but totally out of control! After telling myself I would not buy/drink alcohol that day, by afternoon, I was at the store as an excuse to buy wine or whatever. I felt ashamed and guilty that I couldn't stop this crazy and exhausting cycle. I stayed stuck for many years until I reached out for help. The dark shadow in the back seat is my "shadow self". It represents the dark voices in my head that would say I really needed that drink! After I would listen to this voice and bought the alcohol, the voice would subside like it was satisfied now. That's why the relaxed, casual pose is in the back seat. The shadow self is saying, "alright!! This is going to be a fun and great night now!!". I am so thankful I no longer have this battle happening within my mind and am free of this maddening cycle. I paint and share my story in hopes of helping someone else who is struggling.
