'Shadow Self' oil 2022 is painting #2/3 in my early sobriety recovery work. I had to get this series out of my system and share my experience with getting sober. It was very therapeutic The story behind this one is: That's me at the easel looking out the window with a very uneasy feeling. I've already opened and poured the wine so why does this not feel fun and festive anymore? It's because my addiction has grown so strong that "it's doing pushups in the parking lot" and I'm getting ready to invite the darkness and negativity to me. Towards the end of my drinking, it felt all wrong and I'd always wake up the next day with major anxiety and regret for drinking too much...again! It's good to remember this all today and where I used to be because I never want to go back to that cycle. My sobriety date is August 26, 2021, and today I celebrate 1 year and 4 months without a sip of alcohol! It feels like a miracle to be living happy, joyously, and free. I paint and share my story in hopes of helping someone else who's struggling with this deadly and progressive disease.
