'New Beginnings' oil 2022 is painting #3/3 of my early sobriety recovery work. This image came into my mind after a few months of being alcohol-free. My mind felt clear again and everything around me looked so much more vivid in color. My emotions, feelings, and senses had been restored and I felt hopeful. Sunflowers are chosen because they always move toward the light. There's a Mountain on the right side that represents life's gifts awaiting me and on the left side, the dark place I had left. Getting sober felt like opening up a new door that I was at first afraid to open; fear of the unknown. Today at 1 year and 4 months sober, it's the best decision I could ever make for myself and those in my life. I'm filled with gratitude every day! I paint and share my personal story in hopes of helping someone else who's struggling.
