When the hurricane passed, we all took a group selfie, and I saw the picture and thought; that's it! That's the last picture of my skull trilogy! So I painted it; Me, my husband, two kids, and two friends. It was such a happy photo. We all feel gratitude in the original picture, and I hope that it shows in the painting....

I began the first two, the green and purple skulls using my family as models; my husband and daughter on their cell phones because, well?: everyone is on a cell phone these days! I wanted the light (light is everything) to be coming not only from the cell phone, but from their hearts. I painted stars in the background to represent the universe and how we are all really connected to everything anyway, even though these days, we think we are connected by our phones lol. In the middle of this trilogy, something happened; it was hurricane Irma. I had to pack everything away and prepare for the worst. We were originally right in Irma's path, and after just weeks before just moving into the new house we bought, completely unprepared for a category 3-4 hurricane with outdated 70's windows. We ended up staying in our home, after the hurricane took a turn to the west coast of Florida. We thought we would have to go to a shelter just 12 hours prior, and friends of ours, on the west coast had to come and stay with us for 3 days during the hurricane. This was honestly the most terrifying experience I've ever had, not knowing what to expect , being a mom and pet owner! When the hurricane passed, we all took a group selfie, and I saw the picture and thought; that's it! That's the last picture of my skull trilogy! So I painted it; Me, my husband, two kids, and two friends. It was such a happy photo. We all feel gratitude in the original picture, and I hope that it shows in the painting. I hope anyone who sees this painting, feels the happiness. This trilogy will definitely brighten up any space, whether it's just one or all three paintings. It would be cool to see this on display in a bar or lounge, dining area; definitely an eye catching conversational display. Happy to see them go to a good home eventually.
